Proposed interim province status for GB delayed

Islamabad: The federal cabinet has put on hold the decision pertaining to the proposed provisional province status for Gilgit-Baltistan after Prime Minister Imran Khan approved in principle to change the status of GB, a news source reported. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur presented the summary of the recommendations in the cabinet meeting. Key government figures had earlier tabled recommendations before the prime minister, who accorded approval to turn Gilgit-Baltistan into an interim province and directed officials concerned to present a summary in the cabinet meeting. Law Minister Farogh Naseem, Attorney General of Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan, GB Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak and other prominent figures attended the meeting at the Prime Minister’s House. Earlier, the committee formed to bring constitutional and structural reforms in GB held its second meeting, which was attended and presided by Gandapur in Islamabad. During the meeting, the lower committee presented its recommendations, after which committee members met PM Imran at the Prime Minister’s Office. Sharing its boundaries with Afghanistan and China, Gilgit-Baltistan is the northmost administrative territory in Pakistan. It comprises of three divisions, further divided into 10 districts.
