Important meeting held on FBR reforms

Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan chaired an important meeting concerning reforms proposed for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday, a news source reported. He directed the FBR officials concerned to improve the functioning of the agency’s offshore taxation commissionerates -established in the six big cities of the country. He wanted a swift conclusion to the cases of undeclared assets of overseas Pakistanis. Read: Major FBR reforms underway The PM instructed the authorities to speed up the process of formulating relevant laws on benami properties, and recovery of taxes from big defaulters. Khan stressed the need to restore public trust in the taxation system. Related: Structural reforms expected in FBR Finance Minister Asad Umar, State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar, FBR Chairman Jahanzeb Khan, and several senior officials of the agency attended the meeting. The attendees were briefed about the discovery of undeclared assets of Pakistani citizens stationed abroad. Steps being taken to recover the taxes due on these properties were outlined.
