Islamabad: The government is looking to table a new rent control act for Islamabad, a news source reported. This concern was communicated by Minister of State for Revenue Muhammad Hammad Azhar, as he addressed a convention of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI). Raja Khurram Shehzad Nawaz, MNA and Chairman Standing Committee on Interior, speaking on the matter of rent law, said that a new committee comprising representatives of tenants and owners should be formed to further improve draft rent bill. He also assured the convention that after agreement of all stakeholders, government will present new bill in Parliament for its early enactment into law. President ICCI Ahmed Hassan Mughal said that traders have been struggling for new rent law for the last 40 years. He said due to absence of rent law, 800 traders were evicted forcefully during the last few months. This showed that without rent law, future of traders always remains at risk. He said Federal Finance Minister Asad Umar had assured the local traders that the current government will pass new rent law. He urged the minister and government to honour this promise, which would be a great relief for local traders.
