Russia and Pakistan to strengthen ties in diverse fields

Islamabad: Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday began a two-day visit to Pakistan and was met by his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi and two officials held delegation level talks, according to news sources. The foreign ministers of the two countries expressed mutual resolve in regards to strengthening ties between the nations. Russia also reiterated its committed to fostering bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in economy, trade and defense sectors – while Pakistan assured the provision of extended facilities including the issuance of e-visa to foreign investors. Moreover, Mr Qureshi stated that Pakistan is shifting its focus towards geo-economics and the country is determined to improving relations with Russia in diverse fields. The delegates also discussed the Stream Gas Pipeline project and Minister Qureshi expressed Pakistan’s resolve for its early commencement. Both delegations agreed to arrange the next intergovernmental commission meeting at the earliest for promotion of bilateral economic relations
