Thursday October 29, 2020

Peshawar: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) has formed a committee to pay the proportionate hydel profit owed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, according to a news source. This committee will oversee the payment of the net hydel profit (NHP) to the two provinces according to the AGN Kazi formula. The CCI decided to form this committee after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan and attended by all the provincial chief ministers in Islamabad. A panel headed by Planning Commission Chairman Jehanzeb Khan had previously issued a report which had made certain recommendations on the issue, but the government decided to form a new panel in this regard. Officials called for an ‘out-of-the-box’ solution for this issue, keeping the Kazi formula in mind, and requested the committee to make a fair, constitutional decision. The previous report revealed KP and Punjab’s hydel profit for 2016-17 is expected to be around PKR 128 billion and PKR 52 billion respectively, in accordance with the Kazi committee formula.
