Lahore: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain recently announced that after successfully manufacturing ventilators locally, the country has also successfully developed and begun manufacturing drones — with the equipment expected to facilitate agriculture and to also be used for patrolling and monitoring, according to a news report on July 25. The minister was visiting the manufacturing unit of ABM SATUMA — a company that manufactures drones. On the occasion, he said that there was a large potential for the use of drones in agriculture, particularly for seeding, monitoring and spraying. He expected it to revolutionise the country’s farming industry. He added that the drones would also help law enforcement agencies significantly. He also revealed that his ministry is in talks with the motorway authorities and other relevant ministries on the matter. The plan is to shift the motorway surveillance to drones, which will cut costs and will help monitor large areas. He stated that they also plan on providing the drones to the Islamabad Police department.
